Cinder is coming soon. The app isn’t available to download yet. Google Play and App Store releases are on the way.

FAQ

Is there a web or browser version?

No. Cinder is installed-app only: Android and Amazon Fire now, iPhone coming. Browsers can't meet Cinder's security bar. They can't block screenshots, they may wipe stored data, and a website delivers its code fresh on every visit, so you'd have to trust the server each time.

What can someone outside capture?

Cinder is built so that nothing you write can be captured by an outside source. The app has no internet permission, blocks screenshots and screen recording, and keeps everything encrypted on the phone. The one thing no app can stop is someone photographing the screen with another device.

Is there an account, or a way to export or back up my messages?

No. There are no accounts and no message export or backup of any kind. If your phone is lost, broken or reset, its messages are gone for good. Nobody, including us, can get them back.

Does Cinder store my messages on a server?

No. Cinder has no message server and no internet permission. Everything stays encrypted on your device.

Is it end-to-end encrypted?

Not between two people yet. Today Cinder is a single-device demo with real on-device encryption. Two-phone end-to-end messaging is coming soon.

What if I forget my password?

Your data can't be recovered. That's the trade-off for real encryption.

Does it work on iPhone?

Not yet: an iPhone version is coming soon. Today Cinder runs on Android phones and Amazon Fire tablets.

Why can't I take a screenshot?

Cinder blocks screenshots to protect what's on screen.

Does Cinder know where I am?

No. It refuses location access, and snaps have their location tags removed.
